My first timed race this year was the Happy Girls Half Marathon. This run was a little last minute for me, as I decided to sign up knowing that Justin and I would be returning from Mexico the day before. Although I was a bit nervous, my husband surprised me with an awesome banana card with words of encouragement, which quickly eased any worries I had.
Justin and our friend Roger rode their bikes to various cheer spots along the course to see me and cheer me on. It always gave me a boost to see their smiling faces and hear their voices above the others.
I finished in a time of 1:43, which I was very pleased with. After crossing the finish line I headed over for a snack and beer (served after every race in Bend). Once the results were posted, Justin and I waited after for the awards ceremony as I finished third in my age group. The finishing necklace and third place charm were just as nice as the previous year.
All in all a great race for all those happy women who like to run!
