When Justin and I found out we were pregnant back in January, one of my first thoughts was “I want to move.” Perhaps this isn’t the normal or typical reaction to becoming pregnant, but for me it was important to feel settled and in a permanent place where we could raise our child. We put our house on the market in late February and within a few months were able to sell our home (that part only took a week), purchase our dream home, and get all moved in. We are now putting the finishing touches on our house, planning, furnishing, and decorating the nursery, and are ready for our little guy to arrive.
I thought it would be fun to give you all a little tour of what Justin and I have been investing our time and energy into these past few weeks, and why I have been a seemingly absent blogger lately.
Welcome to Casa de Yax!
The house sits up on a slope away from the street and has a beautiful large deck that wraps around the front and left side. I instantly recognized the decorating potential and have already planned out ways we can decorate for Halloween and Christmas. Does anyone else do this? I love decorating for the holidays!
Walking in the front door you have the living room and kitchen to the left, hallway and stairs straight ahead, and office to the right.
One of the biggest selling points of the house was the open living room and kitchen, as we spend a majority of our time in these areas. The kitchen was completely remodeled in November by the previous owners, and since Justin loves to cook he was instantly sold.
The office is coming together slowly. We purchased a desk and bookcase, which are the most important pieces, but it still seems as though there is a lot of space (it’s a pretty big room). If you have any suggestions for what you would add – do share!!!
The master bedroom and bath are also downstairs. We are still in the process of adding décor, but as you can see we have gone with a black, gold, white, and crème color scheme.
There is also a colorful half bathroom near the laundry room. I decided to make an unexpected appearance in this photo.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a bonus room. These rooms are still a work in progress. The nursery will be in the room closest to the stairs, so we can tend to it quickly when downstairs. As you can see it is very empty. All of our furniture will be here in a couple of weeks. We have decided to go with a travel theme!
The guest bedroom is located upstairs near the back of the house, next to the bonus room. It is very quiet and private. We are putting the finishing touches on this room before we have guests stay at the end of the month.
The bonus room is upstairs near the back of the house and leads out to the backyard, deck, and hot tub. We haven’t done much with the bonus room, aside from setting up a couch and chair. There is A LOT of space in this room, so we are figuring out what to do with that space. I am going to use one of the side nooks as an exercise area, where I will set up my trainer and fitness equipment. What would you do with the rest of the space? The previous owners had a pool table in here, but we don’t need a pool table. A treadmill on the other hand…. (dreaming)
And finally, a trip into our backyard, where there is a lot of space for entertaining and enjoying time outside. This was another selling point of the house. We love the open space, water feature, and natural rock. There is also a trail below the ridge (above the water feature) that leads to a network of trails around Shevlin Park. How perfect is that? Oh, and I can’t wait to use the hot tub. Patience, grasshopper, patience.
Now that I have given you the grand tour, what ideas do you have for sprucing up the office and bonus room? What would you add or change?
What is a selling point for you when searching for a new home?
Where do you spend most of your time?
