Now that I am 16 weeks pregnant and finally starting to show signs of life in my stomach region, I thought it would be fun to document my experiences and changes over the next several months. I’ve seen a lot of other bloggers doing this recently (Julie, Tiffany, and Nicole) and thought it would be a good way to focus more on the present each week and the little things like food cravings and special moments that make this pregnancy of mine magical.
So yes, for a while at least this running, triathlon, adventure blog of mine is going to have some pregnancy related posts each week. Got to keep it real around here. And lets face it; this baby is now and forever will be a part of this running, biking, exploring lifestyle of mine!
Baby is now the size of: An avocado… a rather large one, in my opinion.
Total weight gain: 9 pounds
Maternity clothes / preferred attire: No maternity clothes yet! Somehow, I can still fit into my skinny jeans and normal clothes – but I have a feeling it won’t be long until I make the switch. And I’m not going to fight it, either. When it’s time to switch, it’s time to switch.
Sleep: Sleeping well. I get around 8 hours a night and usually have to get up once to pee around 4am.
Cravings and favorite foods: I constantly crave donuts and cannot walk out of a grocery store without buying one (or three). Anything protein – burgers, salmon, chicken, and eggs. Give me ALL the protein.
Food aversions: Broccoli and some Mexican Foods (I hope this changes before our trip to Mexico in May).
Exercise: Still continuing to run and bike 5 days a week. Averaging 7-8 miles per run (my long run this week was 11.5 miles) and 30 miles per ride. Biking feels really good and my heart rate stays consistently below 140.
Running is a little less predictable and I typically don’t know what to expect. Most of the time running feels good, but I have the occasional “blah” run. One of my friends, Nicole, has been really good at motivating me to get outside and get the legs moving. I run with her at least once a week and they are usually my favorite runs. Running with a friend is highly recommended!
Mood: Pretty much happy all the time. Excited for all of the changes ahead!
Symptoms: Minor round ligament pain (baby boy is growing like crazy), lower backaches, and generally feeling full. Hmmm, could it be the excess donuts?
Missing: A large, cold turkey deli sandwich, wine, and hard efforts on the run and bike.
Worst moment this week: Eating two donuts and then instantly feeling horrible. It put me in a sugar coma and I felt bad for exposing the baby to my sugar needs. I send texts like this to my husband when bad things happen….
Interesting Pregnancy Moments: Yesterday, I had a quick memory lapse and when walking by a mirror did a double take of how big my stomach was. Oh yeah, that’s right, I’m pregnant. I also have been flip flopping words lately, using the opposite word for what I actually mean. For example, the other day I was telling my husband that I would just pour some water into my Gatorade to concentrate it, when obviously I meant to say dilute it. Just little things like that, which I don’t even realize I am doing until after the fact.
Best moment this week: Taking a road trip to the Painted Hills with my hubby. I’ll be expanding more on this experience in a separate post. A close second was my mom gawking at my baby bump when I changed into my cycling gear. Sometimes I think she is more emotional about all of this than I am. ☺
Buying: My first maternity Stitch Fix, which should be arriving early next week. Burt’s Bees Belly Butter. Donuts
Dreaming About: What the little guy is going to look like. Justin and I pulled out some baby pictures and were trying to figure out what a combination of us would look like in male baby format. I think he is going to be super cute (if he gets his father’s looks). I wonder what we were looking at…
